When Tamba opened around 18 months ago, the progressive Indian restaurant brought something new to the dining scene in the city. Gone were any notions about whether it was possible to elevate the cuisine to fine-dining status. Here was proof. A slick dining room, personable serving, incredible ingredients and neat twists on familiar dishes were all present. And we loved it. So much so it was named a Highly Commended Newcomer at our 2016 Restaurant Awards.

So, what has changed? Thankfully not that much. All of the things we adored about Tamba are still present and correct. If anything the service is slicker and the menu, which evolves over time, is more impressive and ambitious.
This time around, we settle for a perch on a high table near the bar and order a selection of small plates to share.

We don’t think we’ll ever have enough of the spicy tuna – cubed and cured like a ceviche but served like bhel puri.

A watermelon salad takes European influence and runs with it. We’re glad it does. It’s delicious. We could go on, but word count gets in the way. Just know this is excellent stuff.

The bottom line

A classy, and different, Indian venue.
